Message from the President

Dear Members,

Hello again, I would like to start by telling everyone that a fun time was had by all at the 2010 Steuben Family Christmas Party. The attending family members and children enjoyed a bountiful amount of good food and drink complements of the association. NYPD specialty units were present for demos and Santa arrived in his new high-tech blue and white sled and handed out presents to our junior members.

Please join us for our Annual Family Night on Monday, June 27, 2011at the Varuna Boat Club in Brooklyn. On this night we traditionally recognize our scholarship award winners, their families and our scholarship sponsors. The boat club offers a perfect location for an outside waterfront event. Specialty units will be on site for display and a complimentary BBQ will be held.

The date and location for our Annual Golf Outing has been set for Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Calverton Links Golf Course. If you would like to support the association you can purchase a “Hole Sponsorship” for the outing. As always we will be hosting dinner and a raffle after a great day of golf. Get your reservations in early, this event is legendary and is usually a sell out.

Don’t forget, The NYPD Steuben Association WILL LEAD the 2011 German American Parade this year on September 17, 2011. Spread the word; come out and march, bring the family. As the host Police Department we need to have a great showing. Be a part of a memorable experience and show your pride as a German American Police Officer! Attend the pre-parade General Meeting on September 12, 2011 for the details regarding the day’s events including staging and the post parade festivities! The 2011 Steuben Oktoberfest is officially set for Saturday, October 1, 2011, Mark the date for the best party of the year. This year the band will be back to perform our favorite songs and the DJ will get the crowd dancing for when the band takes their breaks. It’s going to be a memorable event. As always get your tables together early and get those reservations in.

Keep in mind that we have General Meetings monthly on the fourth Monday of each month at the Knights of Columbus located 264-15 Union Turnpike, Glen Oaks. Food for these meetings is now supplied by the Plattdeutsche Park Restaurant. They have been a strong supporter of our association. Please check them out at www.parkrestaurant.com or pay them a visit. All are welcome to attend the meetings so come and support the association.

Have you been to our website yet? (www.nypdsteuben.org). It has up to the minute information as well as downloadable flyers for our upcoming events and trips. Also, don’t forget our “Facebook Page”. Check it out and join the group to get our event updates.

In an attempt to cut costs, the membership will be given the option to stop receiving the Steuben News via US Mail. The membership form now has a line where you can indicate whether you wish to continue getting the Steuben News by mail or you can be removed from the news mailing list. All issues of the Steuben News will continue to be posted on our website for reading and downloading. You can opt in or out at any time, just send in the slip.

Lastly, as always, dues, – Have you sent yours in? Do you know that Active/Associate membership is going up to $25 on April 15, 2011, now is the time to get up to date! Do you have a delegate in your command? Would you like to be one? Call me and volunteer. It’s really pretty easy, collecting some dues and posting our event flyers. We appreciate those that have volunteered and the association depends on having dedicated delegates throughout the city.
